Arnold Palmer Education & Background:

Arnold Daniel Palmer was destined for greatness, even before his birth on September 10th, 1929. Born to pro golfer, Milfred J. “Deacon” Palmer in Latrobe, Pennsylvania; his father gifted him with a customized set of clubs when he was just three. And by the time he turned seventeen, he had already captured two interscholastic championships. His senior year at Latrobe high school, Arnold met his best friend, Bud Worsham, who played a big part in pushing Palmer to pursue golfing as a career. Through his academic achievements, Arnold won a scholarship to Wake Forest University; though his collegiate instruction ended abruptly during his senior year, when his good friend, Bud, was killed in a car accident. So shaken by this tragedy, Palmer dropped out of college and went into the Coast Guard for three years. In 1954 he restarted his passion for the sport of golfing, deciding to go pro. Through hard work and a love for the game, “The King” came to be known as one of the greatest pro golfers of all time.
