Claire Danes was born in Manhattan New York to a painter mother and computer consultant father. She began taking dance classes at age six and her parents supported her burgeoning interest in performance; they sent her to the prestigious Dalton School, the New York City Lab School for Collaborative Studies, and the Professional Performing Arts School. When she was 13, Danes was cast as the star of My So-Called Life. Two years later, when the show was finally given the go-ahead by ABC, Danes moved to California and began attending the Lycée Français de Los Angeles. In the meantime, she had co-starred in the film Little Women, and through the 90's she landed bigger and bigger roles. Her turn as Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio cementer her celebrity status, but the starlet wanted to return to school to pursue an undergraduate degree in psychology, so she set aside her acting career for a few years. Danes spent two years at Yale University before dropping out to resume her life behind the camera, but she continues to shine in films like Temple Grandin and the ongoing Showtime series Homeland.
