The perpetually funny girl, Ellen Lee DeGeneres was born in Metairie, Louisiana on January 26th, 1958. Though she is known for her quick, impish smile, perky attitude and smart one-liners, like most comedians, her humor was born out of very dark places. By the time she was 16 years old her parents had divorced, and her family relocated to Atlanta, Texas. There Ms. DeGeneres attended Atlanta High School. She attended the University of New Orleans, majoring in communication, but she dropped out after one semester. Tragedy followed the lovely DeGeneres—her love, Kathy, was killed in a car accident in 1980. Once again, this spurred the unsinkable Ellen on to greatness as she turned her grief into a monologue which ended up winning her the 1984 Showtime's Funniest Person in America award. One opportunity led to another, and with each step, Ms. DeGeneres made strides, not only professionally, but personally as well, becoming America's sweetheart and go-to comedian for us all.
