Hilary Swank grew up in a trailer park in Bellingham, Washington, where she attended Happy Valley Elementary, Fairhaven MIddle, and Sehome High School. At age 9, Swank made her acting debut starring in The Jungle Book after being discovered by a producer. She also competed in the Junior Olympics and the Washington state championships in swimming and ranked fifth in the state in gymnastics. Her athletic abilities would prove useful in the future when she starred in The Next Karate Kid four years after she moved to Los Angeles to start acting professionally. There she enrolled in South Pasadena High School but dropped out to act in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and other films, kicking off her career on the big screen. Despite dropping out of school, she did attend Santa Monica College before starring in the critically-acclaimed Boys Don't Cry. Presently, she enjoys a highly successful film career and has two Academy Awards under her belt.
