Hugh Jackman was born in Sydney, Australia and spent his childhood dreaming of traveling. He attended Pymble Public School as a boy and the all-boys Knox Grammar School as a teenager. There he starred in the school production of My Fair Lady and became class president. Upon graduating, Jackman worked at Uppingham School in England for a year and then returned to Australia to get his BA in Communications from the University of Technology, Sydney. During his senior year, he took a drama course for which he played the lead in The Memorandum, and he has stated that he suddenly felt more at home that week than he had for the previous three years. Therefore, he enrolled in a one-year course at the Actors' Centre in Sydney. Following this course Jackman was immediately offered a part on a popular soap opera, but he instead went on to attend the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts of Edith Cowan University in Perth, from which he graduated in 1994. Despite feeling like he was the worst actor in his university, Jackman obviously benefited from his education: Today he is a world-famous actor most known for his portrayal of Wolverine in the X-Men films, has won dozens of awards, and has hosted both Tony Awards and the Academy Awards.
