Jon Stewart, born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz, was raised in Lawrenceville, New Jersey by a teacher and a professor of physics. He attended Lawrence High School, where he was bullied for being Jewish and where he became interested in Eugene Debs and leftist politics. Upon graduating, he went on to study chemistry and then psychology at The College of William & Mary in Virginia, playing on the soccer team and briefly joining a fraternity. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in psychology, Jon Stewart worked in various jobs, including puppeteer, soccer coach, and bartender, before moving to New York to do stand-up comedy. Before long, he landed a job as a television writer, which led him to eventually develop his own talk show on MTV. Today, he is by far the most famous host of The Daily Show and is a hugely popular political personality in addition to being a two-time best-selling author.
