Julia Roberts was born to two actors/playwrights who ran an acting school for children in Decatur, Georgia, making her career choice rather apropos. She grew up in Smyma, Georgia where she attended Fitzhugh Lee Elementary School, Griffin Middle School, and Campbell High School. As a child, she wanted to be a veterinarian, but left Georgia State University to join her siblings when they moved to New York City. In the Big Apple, Roberts signed with Click Modeling Agency and took acting classes until her first big film role in Satisfaction in 1988 when she was only 19 years old. Her stunning looks and throaty laugh brought her immediate success; she starred in the blockbuster Mystic Pizza that same year and Steel Magnolias the next year. In 1990, Roberts became an international star for her iconic role in Pretty Woman, earning her a second Golden Globe Award. Today she has become one of the highest-paid actresses in the world, won an Academy Award, and been named one of People magazine's Most Beautiful People in the World eleven times.
