Kristen Stewart grew up in Los Angeles with a show-business family - her father is a stage manager and television producer and her mother is a script supervisor and film director. As a child, she thought she would take after her parents and work in the entertainment industry behind the scenes, but after an agent saw her perform in her school's Christmas play when she was 8 years old, she was swept away by the acting game. After auditioning for a year, Stewart received her first role in a Disney film and then, at age twelve, made her big debut in 2002 in Panic Room as Jodie Foster's daughter. Due to her burgeoning career, she started doing school-by-correspondence in eighth grade and in this manner graduated high school with honors while filming Twilight. The adolescent Stewart impressed critics and crowds alike in the Sean Penn-directed Into the Wild but shot to teen idol status instantly with her role as Bella Swan in the aforementioned vampire romance film. Despite her success, the starlet has recently decided to continue her education by studying English Literature at the University of California, Los Angeles through correspondence. Fans need not worry, though - she's still an actress through and through, currently filming Camp X-Ray.
