Mariah Angela Carey, born March 27th, 1970 in Huntington, New York to Alfred and Patricia Carey. Her mother was a vocal coach and operatic singer, who was stunned by Mariah's ability to imitate her singing by the time she was two. At four young protege was taking singing lessons and pushing herself to new heights every day. Her parents divorced when she was three, so the ever delightful Mimi took solace in music, sneaking the radio under her covers at night and singing her heart out. She attended the Oldfield Middle School, moving on to complete her high school education at Greenlawn's Harborfields High School. After graduation she moved in with some friends and worked hard at several day jobs, but always returning to her first love of music late into the night, singing and song writing. It was a difficult road for her to pave, but quite memorable and fairytale-like. Once she found a label that would carry her, she made history on September 30th, 1995 by becoming the first female artist to reach #1 on Billboard's Hot 100.
