The title "The Blond Bombshell" doesn't even begin to sum up the explosive effect the gorgeous woman had on everyone she met. Norma Jean Mortenson was born on June 1st, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. She seemed doomed from the very beginning; her mother was mentally ill and abandoned her to the poor care of an orphanage. Wanting nothing more than to be loved and accepted, young Ms. Mortenson escaped foster care by marrying 20-year-old James Dougherty when she was just 16 years old. She dropped out of the Van Nuys High School where she had received a minimal education at best. Her husband joined the Marines and she joined in the war relief by working as a parachute inspector at a plant. There she caught the eye a photographer. To her delight she was told she photographed well--her first real taste of how it felt to be, what she believed, desired. One thing led to another and she fought long and hard to make it as an actress, which was her real dream from the beginning. Bleaching her hair and changing her name, the bombshell Marilyn Monroe was born. Truly wanting to be the very best actress possible, she took her job seriously and worked hard at it. Bubbly, seductive and desirable on film, it seemed she had everything she had ever dreamed of. But, at the end of the day, she was always haunted by the ghosts of her past. The demons in her mind would not allow her rest and they tortured her until she could take it no longer. And on August 5th, 1962, the young beauty tragically took her own life.
