Some actors play smart characters while others are just plain smart. Mayim Bialik, is the later. Bialik earned a Phd in Neuroscience from the University of California Los Angeles. She was also accepted at both Harvard and Yale Universities, but chose to attend school closer to home. Bialik was raised in southern California by a family of teachers and documentary filmmakers. As a child she was cast as the lead in the hit 80’s TV show “Blossom.” But it’s her current role as the neurobiologist girlfriend to the quirk-ridden Sheldon Cooper on “The Big Bang Theory” that may have art imitating life. After receiving a BS in Neuroscience (and Hebrew and Jewish studies) in UCLA, Bialik returned to school five years later to study Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in adolescents with Prader-Willi syndrome. She received her Phd from UCLA in 2007.
