Nicki Minaj Education & Background:

Nicki Minaj was born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago until she was five years old, when she moved to Queens, New York City, with her mother. She played the clarinet at P.S. 045 Clarence Witherspoon elementary school and P.S. 210 Elizabeth Blackwell Middle School. At LaGuardia High School, she was by her own accounts distracted by "acting and boys", but she still managed to successfully complete her high school education. She decided to forego college to pursue an acting career, but instead of finding acting gigs she worked a myriad of customer service jobs, most of which she was fired from. Therefore, it is fortuitous that Minaj finally realized her true talent: music. She was signed by Brooklyn group, Full Force and started to create her own work on the side, sending it out through MySpace to music industry insiders. Soon, Dirty Money Entertainment signed her as a solo artist and she developed a reputation for her empowered, unique lyrics and outrageous fashion sense. Currently, she is considered by many to be the most influential female rapper of all time, is the first female solo artist to have seven singles charting on the Billboard Hot 100 at once, and has won seven BET Awards and two MTV Music Awards.
